Recipe of Today: Churros with Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients:
For The Churros:
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- vegetable oil, for frying
For The Coating:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For The Chocolate Sauce:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the all-purpose flour to the saucepan. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat.
- Transfer the dough to your Kitchenin KM50 Stand Mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix the dough on low speed for 1-2 minutes to cool it slightly.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, to the mixer. Mix well after each addition until the eggs are fully incorporated into the dough. The dough should be smooth and glossy.
- Fill a large piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip (½ inch) with the churro dough.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F.
- Carefully pipe 4-5 inch long churros directly into the hot oil. Use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut the dough from the piping bag. Fry the churros until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot.
- Remove the churros from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- In a shallow dish, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until they are fully coated.
- For the chocolate sauce, place the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Serve the warm churros with the luscious chocolate sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
