Essential Baking Equipment
Baking Trays and Tins
Some large, flat, nonstick, fairly heavy baking trays are useful. A 1kg loaf tin is essential for both bread and cakes. If you don't have a nonstick tray or tin, you can season the tray with oil, or use baking parchment or silicone paper.
Scraper
It's an extremely handy tool when baking. Look for a really sturdy scraper that won't bend. The best ones have a plastic or metal handles and a rigid steel blade, although they are available with plastic blades too.
Plastic Tubs and Bags
Oiled plastic tubs can be used to hold and help shape the wetter dough as it rises, while a clean plastic bag can be used over a large bowl to create an aerated environment for the dough to rise.
Stand Mixer
It's not an essential piece of equipment. However, it's incredibly useful in reducing kneading time, and it will set your hands and arms free.
Ovens
You can bake in any oven, whether it is gas, electric, oil or solid fuel. But the baking time may need to be adjusted.
Yeast Equipment
A 2-liter clear container is ideal for raising sourdough starter, as it allows you to keep an eye on how the yeast is performing and how the dough is growing. A proving cloth is needed to put the dough on as it rises, as they can crack and fall apart very much. A clean cotton tea towel covered with flour is ideal. Alternatively, you can buy proving baskets, which will help give your dough a nice shape.
